Mediterranean Sunset

Perfect end of a busy day by the Mediterranean sea. In this picture, I booked an Airbnb in Mermeris, Turkey. We had a beautiful deck shared with 2 other units in the small complex. Basically, the whole place is for ourselves, with a private little beach.

Pergamon Amphitheater

The Amphitheater of Pergamon, located in what is now modern-day Bergama, Turkey, is an extraordinary example of ancient Greek architecture and engineering. Pergamon, an ancient city in the region of Aeolis, was a cultural and political hub during the Hellenistic period.

The amphitheater itself is renowned for its steep seating arrangement and spectacular panoramic views, offering a beautiful vista of the surrounding countryside. This structure, located on the slopes of the Acropolis, was primarily used for theatrical performances and gatherings.

Key features of the Pergamon Amphitheater include:

1. Architecture: The design was adapted to the hillside, with tiered seating carved directly into the rock. This allowed for excellent acoustics and sightlines, enabling audiences to clearly hear and see performances.

2. Capacity: It could accommodate up to 10,000 spectators, pointing to the importance of public performances and events in daily life.

3. Cultural Significance: It was part of a larger complex that included temples, libraries, and other public buildings, indicating its role in the social and cultural activities of the time.

Visiting the site today offers insight into ancient engineering techniques and the cultural priorities of Hellenistic society. It remains a symbol of the artistic and intellectual achievements of the ancient world.

EL Nido Palawa, Philippines

El Nido, located on the northern tip of Palawan Island in the Philippines, is renowned for its stunning natural beauty and vibrant marine life. Often considered one of the most beautiful travel destinations in the world, El Nido is famous for its pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and dramatic limestone cliffs.

Key highlights of El Nido include:

1. Island Hopping: One of the most popular activities, where visitors can explore the Bacuit Archipelago, which comprises around 45 islands and islets. Each spot offers unique attractions like hidden lagoons, secluded beaches, and coral reefs.

2. Beaches: El Nido boasts numerous idyllic beaches such as Nacpan Beach, Marimegmeg Beach, and Las Cabanas Beach. These spots are perfect for relaxation, sunbathing, and enjoying breathtaking sunsets.

3. Marine Biodiversity: The waters around El Nido are teeming with life, making it a prime destination for snorkeling and scuba diving. Divers and snorkelers can encounter a wide variety of marine species, including sea turtles, colorful fish, and vibrant coral gardens.

This particular day, we decided to take TOUR C, which consisted of multiple island-hopping stops with incredible views, and hospitable locals.
If planning on going to El Nido and on a budget, I would recommend staying at Sunvley Hostel. Cozy Hostel away from the noise of the main town, walking distance of the beach, but it's a bit of a mission to get there, so make sure to contact the property before arriving.

Göbekli Tepe Archaeological Site

Göbekli Tepe is a remarkable archaeological site located in southeastern Turkey, near the city of Şanlıurfa. It is considered one of the most significant archaeological discoveries of recent times due to its ancient origins and implications for our understanding of early human society.

Here are some key aspects of Göbekli Tepe:

1. Age and Significance: Dated to around 9600 BCE, Göbekli Tepe predates Stonehenge and the Egyptian pyramids by several millennia, making it one of the oldest known examples of monumental architecture. This challenges previous notions about the development of complex societies and the timeline of human civilization.

2. Architecture: The site is characterized by large, T-shaped limestone pillars arranged in circular enclosures. Each pillar weighs up to 20 tons and can reach heights of over 6 meters (20 feet). The craftsmanship and scale suggest a high level of organization and sophistication.

The trip to this magnificent site was once in an lifetime experience, totally recommended. We chose to drive something around 12 hours from Antalya and made base in Urfa, Turkey. Just 30km from the Syrian border.
Quiet a bit of a cultural shock in the beginning. We stayed in an Airbnb in the old town that, as our host said, was built only 50 years after America was discovered.

Demre, located in southwestern Turkey near the Mediterranean coast, is a historic town famous for its rich archaeological and religious heritage. It is best known as the ancient city of Myra and for being the birthplace of Saint Nicholas, the historical figure behind the modern Santa Claus.

Is the place I have been calling "Home" for the past +10 years. One of the safest places I've been in the world, so far.
With delicious wines, top-class restaurants, and breathtaking beaches with almost no people year-round, no wonder I fell in love with the place.

Doha, Qatar

This trip, thou short, was quite a special one as I reunited with a dearest friend I haven't seen in over 10 years. We spent the day together as I only had a 24-hour layover.

Chilling at Waiheke Hostel
Nothing better than relaxing and enjoying the view from Waiheke Hostel.Has an amazing location overlooking Onetangi valley, with multiple shops and restaurants to choose from.
Keep in mind the island doesn't have a very developed network of public transportation, just yet. And reaching the hostel can be a bit of a mission. Public bus 50A will leave you at the last stop in Onetangi Beach, from where you will have to climb a few stairs to get to the top of the hill. I guess having such amazing views comes with a cost.

Katunggan Boardwalk

Katunggan Boardwalk in Negros Oriental is a peaceful natural destination, emphasizing the importance of ecological preservation while providing a scenic and relaxing experience for visitors interested in nature, wildlife, and coastal landscapes

While in Dauin, we decided to rent a car and just drive for a couple of hours. No destination. We got lucky enough to come across the reserved. There were no people that day, for some reason. But it looked like a family-oriented destination. It's relatively well maintained, and NO. There were no alligators that we saw, at least.

Oslob, Cebu, Philippines

We found this incredibly beautiful Airbnb with a little private beach. So peaceful and reclusive. Quite a few stairs down, which means that you will have to climb them all up again, but as you can see, totally worth it. Our Host even gave us some tips that made us save a lot of time and money for our expedition to see the whale sharks and Waterfalls. Which I share on my Top Things to do in Cebu YouTube video.
